sunflowers...work in progress

sunflowers...work in progress
48"x60"
I'm not sure what this one is going to look like yet. I started blocking in shapes and colors last night and it looks a little too tropical to me right now. I will block in the mountains and pinon trees and play with the background a bit today and see what happens. This painting will be at the Weems Old Town show on May 7th.

Upcoming Weem Show

Work in progress
36"x36"
This is a large painting I'm working on for a Weems Old Town show that begins May 7th. The show features a sculptor and I knew I said I wasn't going to do any shows until Artfest, BUT they said it could be whatever I wanted, so I agreed. I am filling up the back wall because the scuptor's work sits on pedestals. These will be mostly large paintings with no lines. Florals and landscapes and sunsets. This is the first one piece for the show...

"CHURCH AT ALGODONES"

"CHURCH AT ALGODONES"
8"X10"
I went to a plein air paint out at Dixon apple Farms on Friday. Sad to say, I did not see one other painter anywhere out there. It was beautiful and I will be posting some photos later. I also went to the little village of Pena Blanca, then I went to Placitas and Algodones. I saw this quaint little church and knew I had to paint it. It's painted with Golden Open acrylics, which are slow drying - more like oils. Which is good for plein air because you get sun, heat, and wind, which dry your acrylic paints out in no time at all. Anyway, I had a wonderful solitary getaway and can't wait to do it again! If you are interested in this painting, it is available. It has to completely dry and I will be adding some glazing to the shadows.
Also, I have a new post on my weight loss blog:

What I've been working on....

A painting requested by my daughter...a dahlia she found in a print somewhere. No lines!

The beginnings of my painting for the Legacy Art event coming up on May 8th. This painting will be auctioned off for the Art Has Heart Foundation.
I have a busy day and will write more later!

"LAVENDER MEADOW" in progress

"LAVENDER MEADOW"
12"X9"
Here's some spring lavender - I love to paint these meadows with all of the leaves, vines, and interplay of colors. You can see that I have started the linework in the middle of the painting. This should be nice when finished.

"WILD TULIPS" work in progress

"WILD TULIPS"
10"X10"
Another bouquet painting that I'm working on. This is a wild jumbled mass of spring tulips. I know it doesn't look very "New Mexican", but it was quite fun to paint.
I still am not in full painting mode yet. I have started back exercising after my surgery, but still feel a little weak. I went back to Weight Watchers and have lost 33.6 pounds so far. I have my appetite back and am still figuring out what to eat after gall bladder surgery. It seems like I can eat anything but I know that bad fats and fried foods are not good for me. I have a million things on my art "to do" list. I am starting to paint big sunflowers for the upcoming Weems Art poster. I also have a large piece to paint for the upcoming Legacy Art event - Lou Diamond Phillips will be back this year, so it is sure to be a blast. In fact, I think I better start that today, the event is May 8th! Wow, time flies...AND it is spring out which just makes me want to do yardwork and sit outside and enjoy all of the blossoms. So many things, so little time.....have a great week!

"RAINSTORM ABOVE CORRALES" in progress

"RAINSTORM ABOVE CORRALES"
12"X9"
I love this cornfield. The painting is a work in progress - if you look closely, you can see where I've started the linework. The Sandia Mountains are experiencing a small thunderstorm. I like where this one is going!

"THE SUNS"

"THE SUNS"
8"X10"
My first daily painting in quite some time! Since sunflowers are my favorite, I decided to start with those. I hope you like them. I have several more paintings in the work for Artfest too. I will showcase those as I finish them one by one. If you are interested in any Artfest painting that comes up, email me as soon as possible. I will keep these paintings at home for one week and then they become "offocial" Artfest paintings for the Weems show in November. The purchase information for "THE SUNS" is below. It's good to be back!

work in progress
Hi all - I am finally painting again. I'm slowly getting back to normal and I just had to go into the studio today. I painted five paintings! Some will be daily paintings, some will be for Artfest.
This particular painting is a view of a canyon wash with a stream running through it. I love the mingling of colors and the contrast of the oranges with the blues. I am getting in the mood to go plein air painting. It's finally spring here, but I bet the trees haven't blossomed out in the north yet. We are supposed to go out and paint in Dixon as soon as the apple trees blossom, that should be a blast.
I'm feeling a lot better these last few days. I go to the doctor on Friday and will probably be able to start exercising at my normal pace on Monday. For those of you watching my weight loss blog, I was not able to weigh in at WW last Saturday, so I have no idea how I did. I will let you know this weekend. Anyway, I'm glad to be back. in my studio and thanks for hanging out with me!

Hello everyone -
An update! I am finally better from my gall bladder surgery, five days into recovery. On day three, my blood pressure would not come down and I felt like I coulldn't catch my breath. This has gone away, thank goodness, and I am feeling better every day.
I drove my car today and am taking short walks.
I finished a small commission and hope to get back to daily painting this week.
Thanks for all of the caring and comments and thanks to those of you that sent e-cards. I love them!
