A surprise
4"X4"
SOLD (nw)
I was finishing up some small commissions (6"x8") and came across this sweet little canvas. I got a sudden desire to paint something on it with a big fat brush and this is what happened. I just went for it, no thoughts really, just create something with a huge brush and make it look nice. Lots of loose brushstrokes and fresh color. It's smaller than my usual pieces, so the purchase price reflects that. Purchase information is below and have a wonderful week. It is cloudy and cool in New Mexico today!

a beautiful Sunday
My two newest completed commissions: "TRES" and "MR. COOL." These pieces are both 8"x8" and were fun to paint! Some artist don't like to paint commissions or duplicate pieces - actually I think it's a challenge to play around with the paint to see if you can improve upon the original. They are never exact but there's usually always something in them that is different, I like, and makes me smile!

"LAVENDER AND POPPIES" in progress
work in progress
10"x10"
This is a 150 Challenge painting in progress- the toned red ground contrasting with the orange of the poppies and the purple of the lavender - I'm lovin' it. Hopefully you'll see the finished result tonight. Have a great weekend!

"HILLTOP CASITA"
8"X8"
SOLD
I was trying to remember where I took this photo, I think it was on the way to Chimayo not too long ago. The little old house was actually abandoned, but I couldn't portray it that way. I like to imagine it back in the day - full of life and activity. Purchase information is below:
Also, watch for tonight's 150 Challenge iris painting: www.150challenge.blogspot.com
Two SUNLIGHT paintings available

"BEFORE NIGHT"
8"X10"
SOLD
Aah, my second horse. I had a photo of this horse with a very boring background and a photo of a beautiful sunset, so I made a composite of the two and this is the result. I think he's enjoying his last munch before bed! Purchase information is below:
Also, check out my newest painting #92, on Dee's 150 Challenge blog:
"HIDDEN WATERS"
8"X10"
SOLD
This painting is a composite view of the river running right by the highway on the way to Taos and the river at Pilar. This makes me excited for my upcoming paint-out in July at Taos with the Plein Air Painters of NM. I'm also headed to Abiquiu and an organic orchard in Velarde in April. I'm not planning for these events yet, just concentrating on daily paintings, 150 Challenge paintings and a couple of large paintings for Weems Galleries. Purchase information is below:

Commission
8"X10"
SOLD (mf)
I'm almost over my cold and I'm SLOWLY completing commissions that I've accepted. I don't want to rush them because if I do, I feel like I'm shortchanging my customer and there's less enjoyment for me. I am working on several at this point and fitting them in between my 150 Challenge paintings and my daily paintings. I am definitely in the painting zone right now. Actually, as I'm writing this, it's 12:30 am here and I'm still in the studio!

"THE REDS"
SOLD
These are hollyhocks from Canyon Road. I painted an oil scene of these hollyhocks sitting inside my car a couple of years ago, THAT was interesting. It was raining and I got paint everywhere - on my clothes, all over the steering wheel, etc. But the painting turned out really nice. I will paint more like this. I want to play around with the adobe and the relationship between the wall and the flowers to see if I can make it feel more painterly. Purchase information is below:

BOSQUE CLOUDS"
SOLD
I've been itching to paint some of the water photos I have. Of my own bosque, of Bosque del Apache, Pilar, the Rio Grande, etc. I love the stillness and peace of acequias and I also am happy with the clouds in the background. I didn't want to make the vegetation and trees too colorful. I just wanted everyone to see and feel the water. Purchase information is below:

"A LITTLE LAVENDER"
SOLD
I guess you could say I'm practicing my birds! Ever since I painted the first bit of lavender at Los Poblanos, I've been itching to do more. And I enjoyed painting the hummingbird from a couple of posts ago, so I thought I would combine the two. I think I like the background most of all....purchase information is below:

"PATH TO GRACE"
SOLD
My next attempt at creating the beauty and mystery of our lovely Chimayo. I could paint this scene all day. Purchase information is below.
Also, please click on the 150 challenge link below to see my four new 150 Challenge paintings. I have created the first 50 and today I start the countdown with working on painting #99. Yeah! I can't wait to see them up all together up on the wall at Weems in June. Also, on another note, I am going to be working on my official new website soon. I am "attempting" to create it myself so I can add images and text at will and make it more immediate for my readers. I am a novice at that, so wish me luck. It will still be the same domain name, but all new and fresh. So stay tuned. One last thing, it is raining here this morning - we haven't had rain at all for so long and barely any snow, at least at my house, so I am happy. Have a wonderful week and stay tuned for more new paintings!

"CHIMAYO HOLLYHOCKS"
work in progress
SOLD (js)
One of my artist friends (thank you Cara) sent me this photo that she took on a motorcycle trip to New Mexico, where she used to live and really wants to come back to one day. I've had it for a while and decided to see if I could paint it. The perspective was new for me because I'm looking at the adobe wall from a weird angle. I love the softness of it at this point. I think there will be more of these and definitely in larger sizes. Everyone just loves Chimayo and I thank you, Cara!
If anyone wants to put their mark on it, purchase information is below.
These are my projects for the next 7 days: finish this painting, make flyers for my 150 Challenge and distribute, finish about 9 overdue paintings for one of my very best friends, deliver a couple of small paintings for a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity happening next weekend, work on three large "already sketched" paintings for Weems galleries (cloudscape, sunflowers, and a wildflower meadow), finish a lavender painting for another friend, start a dancer painting for another friend, work on my daily paintings and my 150 Challenge paintings, send some photos online to be developed for future paintings, and start work on setting up my new website. I think I'm going to go work out and then come home and read - I feel procrastination coming on!

"THREE WITH CLOUDS"
10"X8"
No matter what subjects I paint, I always seem to come back to sunflowers. I guess they make me feel grounded. I can't wait to go to Bosque del Apache in August and see all of the sunflowers combined with the wetlands there. When I went a few weeks ago, all I saw were the spent blooms of stands and stands of sunflowers. I can't wait. I have two challenge paintings I'm working on, and guess what? They both have sunflowers! Purchase information is below:

"PLACITAS QUIET"
10"X8"
A while back I went to Placitas, NM on a paint out. I hadn't been there in years and it was my first time painting on location outdoors so I was excited. It was in October and it wasn't cold but the sky was filled with these lovely puffy, billowy clouds. We went on this long loop road that goes right up to the mountains. You could park and paint and never see a soul. I thought it was the most magical thing - to be out there in the wilderness, totally by yourself, just experiencing nature in all it's mystery. This painting is from a photo I took that day. Purchase information is below. I also wanted to tell you that I have two 150 Challenge paintings I will post later today and a large sunflower painting in the works for my gallery.
Oh, I wanted to tell everyone: one of my lavender paintings was chosen to be the official poster and t-shirt of the Los Poblanos LAVENDER IN THE VILLAGE coming up later this year. That makes me happy! Los Poblanos is such a beautiful place - so this is for you, Tom and Marilyn, for making me paint that lavender!!
