"THE ORCHARDS"

"THE ORCHARDS"
8"X10"
SOLD
This is one of my favorite paintings.
It is an older piece and I've thought often about keeping it. I only have a handful of paintings that I've considered keeping, maybe six or seven, and this is one of them.
This is a peach orchard near my house in the north valley.
It has an awesome view of the Sandia Mountains, I love the sky, and this scene was during the fall of the year when the leaves were turning. I especially like the little touch of purple and burgundy near the trees.
I just like everything about it!

"SIGNS OF SPRING"

"SIGNS OF SPRING"
6"X9"
SOLD
I just really felt a need to paint something warm!
We're having some COLD weather with chances of snow
and I wanted to do something vibrant and colorful.
I am outlining my commission now and should be finished in a couple of days.
I'll post when I finish the last line!
When that is complete, I'm really going to give my studio a good cleaning
and then I'm going to sit down and figure out what I want to do for the coming year.

8"X10"

This painting I started before Christmas and just finished today.
It's of the Sandia Mountains near my home. Oh my gosh, driving home today at about 5pm. they were the most beautiful watermelon color; hence the same Sandia, which means watermelon in Spanish.

but you may purchase immediately by Paypal.
If you'd like to purchase by debit, credit, or check, please email me.
I will be working on finishing my commission the next couple of days,

GIFTS: NO LINES

CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE!
It has been almost one year since I began this blog and I have learned so much!
I now paint faster and better (I think), and have met so many wonderful people over the course of composing these daily little paintings.
Anyway, I just want to say that I hope everyone out there has the most wonderful holiday season and I look forward to YEAR #2 of hanging out with you.
Let the painting begin!! (But not until after Christmas!)
PEACE AND LOVE TO YOU ALL

STUDIO TOUR DAILY PAINTERS

My studio in all it's messy glory!
Today is a studio tour of all of the artists that paint on the website http://dailypainters.com/
I was actually supposed to post it last night but was working as usual and totally forgot. Anyway, it's not clean and it's not that organized but I pretty much know where everything's at. Or I can find it in about 15 minutes.
I'm trying to fit in Christmas shopping (haven't bought a thing yet) in with painting projects I'm trying to finish up, so everything is pretty crazy. I should have an update on my large commission in a couple of days. Enjoy your day!

"THE TAOS RIM"

"THE TAOS RIM"
6"X9"
A sweet little painting of the rim beyond Arroyo Seco
that takes you into Taos Ski Valley.
This rim overlooking the valley has been used in several movies.
The one I remember most is "Twins" with Arnold Schwartzeneger and Danny Devito.
There's also a little tiny house hanging right off the edge that has been everything; a gas station, cafe, studio, etc.
The valley is beautiful all year, even in the dead of winter.
TOMORROW I PREVIEW THE FREE PAINTING AND YOU WILL HAVE ONLY 3 DAYS UNTIL THE DRAWING.
If you want to register, please send me your name and address.
Have a good night!

COMMISSION UPDATE

STEP THREE: After toning the canvas and creating a loose sketch, this is the next step. It involves composition, correct placement, and just playing with colors to fit everything in. This completed painting should have a vivid sky, poppies, coneflowers, and lots of wildflowers. Some of the flowers are reaching up into the sky, so I feel there is just no room for a middle ground.
STEP 4: I have placed the flowers where I want them,
trying to create a nice color range and flow.
I am happy with placement - I just need word from my collectors
about whether they would like any changes before I proceed further.
The final painting should have more warmth from whites, yellows, and oranges in the sky.

"ELEVEN"

"ELEVEN"
9"X6"
I just finished this painting and I have tomorrow night's ready too.
I will post my commission underpainting tomorrow night
along with the new daily painting up for auction.
I'm trying to finish what seems to me like a million things;
one commission, daily paintings, a free painting giveaway, four ornaments, a 12x16, an 8x10, an 18x24 for my brother,
five smaller paintings as gifts, and a larger piece also as a gift.
I also have an overwhelming need to go out and paint on location right now.
I feel a mad craving to be like Georgia O'Keefe and take all of my paintings to a hotel room, line them up, and think about what I want to do next.
I want to paint some small oils, I want to paint people, I want to do only really large works that take forever to outline. I want to start searching for galleries in Santa Fe and Taos. I want a studio in Taos!

"THE BLUE DOOR"

"THE BLUE DOOR"
6"X9"
Here is tonight's entry: The Blue Door.
This painting comes from a photo of beautiful
geranium-filled flower pots
sitting on the porch of a Santa Fe adobe.
The flowers struck me but the door was what captured my attention. It was blue against a saturated ochre-orange colored adobe wall.
Hope you enjoy!
All of my paintings from now through Christmas Day will be listed at starting bids of $75 plus free shipping.
Tomorrow night will be the underpainting of my commission and Wednesday night, I will preview the FREE PAINTING giveaway for December 16th. Stay tuned!

"THE CLIMBERS"

"THE CLIMBERS"
9"X6"
SOLD
Finally, a daily painting up for auction!
I have eight 6x9 canvases and I finally decided to paint them.
This piece is some lovely climbing flowers against a warm wall.
My inspiration actually came from an old painting I bought at an antique store. The canvas is dented in one place, cut in the other, and some of the paint is cracking, but I love it anyway. It has no title but was signed "Sebastia, '63." So, Sebastia, wherever you are, this is for you.
Tomorrow night's painting:
A canyon woman peeking around an adobe wall.

These are my two entries into the Taos "Hearts and Stars" fundraiser.
The event will be December 14-18, 2007 at

I am headed to Taos, taking my camera, and hoping I'll have time to take a few great winter photos of Taos.

COMMISSION 2-3

This is the beginning stage of my painting - a very watery, loose wash of three colors; burnt sienna, a brilliant red, and cadmium orange.
This is the next stage - a very rough block in of my sketch. The foreground is a mass of wildflowers including poppies, asters, and coneflowers. Middle ground will be fields, mesa, and the mountains. I won't be blocking in the underpainting until Saturday.
I'm headed to Taos tomorrow. I forgot about two 8x10's I am contributing to a fundraiser there called "Hearts and Stars." It's a fundraiser for the homeless in Taos. I will finish them in the morning, frame them, take them up and then a quick trip and back home.
I still can't seem to get a daily painting done to put up for auction!

HARWOOD PAINTING

"POPPY MEADOW"
12"X12"
I almost forgot to paint this painting! The Harwood Art Center is having a fundraising event where 100 artists are given a 12x12 piece of plywood and told to do whatever they like on it. They are not to sign the front, only the back. So no one knows who did what unless you are familiar with the work of the artist. Each painting sells for $10 per square inch, so $144 each. What a fantastic deal! I've been so busy, I almost forgot.
So I went to work and finished and delivered it this morning.

"A COMMISSION FROM START TO FINISH"

"A COMMISSION FROM START TO FINISH"
50"X40"
I thought I would share my working process on a new commission. My clients have chosen elements from two paintings to incorporate into this new piece; a beautiful cerulean blue sky, clouds with orange and golden undertones, rust or purple mountains, and a jumbled meadow filled with coneflowers, poppies, and multitudes of other flowers.
What you see above is a basic rough working sketch.
The painting will be three quarters floral with little wisps of flowers reaching up into the sky, and the mountains will have faint hints of the back of the Sandia mountains where I live.
My next step will be to tone my canvas with a loose wash mixture of burnt sienna, cadmium orange, and cadmium red.
After that, I will complete a sketch on my canvas with loose paint. Then I will start to work on blocking in the colors in the underpainting.
My clients will also be following the process on this blog. I welcome comments and feedback!
OH, AND DON'T FORGET TO EMAIL ME TO REGISTER FOR THE FREE PAINTING GIVEAWAY ON DECEMBER 16TH!
