"INDIAN PAINTBRUSH"

"INDIAN PAINTBRUSH"
12" x 6" Acrylic on Canvas
I used to live up in the mountains and we had a beautiful meadow that was full of wispy mountain grass and Indian Paintbrush. They are very hard to transplant (I believe they act as a parasite plant and have to have a host in order to survive), so we just took lots of pictures and enjoyed their beauty.

"WEEMS GALLERY SHOW"

Weems Gallery Show
Hi everyone,
The Weems show is almost over so I thought I would send a shot of part of it so you could take a look.
The large piece in the middle sold before the show opened.

"ADOBE GARDEN"

"ADOBE GARDEN"
10" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas
Well, I finished it!
The background is an adobe wall but it almost looks like a sunset on fire.
It's an iris and rose garden and it reminds me of my grandmother's house where I grew up.

Underpainting Preview

Hi everyone, This is an underpainting of tomorrow night's piece. I was out all day today running errands, so I thought I would show you what a painting looks like in the stage before completion. This work will be called "Adobe Garden" and as you can see, it is basically the "bones" of the painting before glazing, highlighting, outlining, varnishing, and any other last minute touches. As you can see, there is no real depth yet. Stay tuned and see the finished painting tomorrow night....

"CANYON TREES"

"CANYON TREES"
12" x 6" Acrylic on Canvas
This is a quiet but very vivid painting of misty mountains and tall trees with a colorful foreground

"WOODLAND SPRING"

"WOODLAND SPRING"
8" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas
This is a smaller version of my favorite postcard painting - a larger 36"x48" piece that took forever to complete because of all of the detail on the lines. I really enjoyed this one.

"HARVEST MOON"

"HARVEST MOON"
8" x 10" Acrylic on Canvas
A departure from florals, a peaceful meadow scene under a moonlit night.

"PONDEROSA SUNSET"

"PONDEROSA SUNSET"
10" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas
I keep saying I'm want to paint more sky pieces, well here's my latest. These ponderosa pines are from a photo I had taken at a spot up in the mountains called Pine Flats. We go up every year for a big family Easter picnic. It was a sunny day but they trees were so pretty that I decided to create a spectacular sunset for their backdrop.

"RISTRA PATH"

"RISTRA PATH"

20" x 20" Acrylic on Canvas

This is another piece that I've been hanging on to. These are my Canyon Women walking up a pathway as evening closes in. The old adobe has handmade red chile ristras hanging from the eaves. As I was painting, I imagined that these women had done a hard day's work and were just standing back, taking a break and surveying their handiwork. I really like the way the light embraces the top of the path and the adobe house.

'GOLDEN BEAUTIES"

"GOLDEN BEAUTIES"
10" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas
A nice trio of spring sunflowers.
I added a touch of turquoise to the background to contrast with the yellow-orange of the flowers

"SECOND STORY WINDOW"

"SECOND STORY WINDOW"
10" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas
This is a nice painting with two turquoise windows behind a huge windowbox full of summer flowers. My first thought was to fill the frame with all adobe but I decided to add an expanse of sky so you could get the feeling of height.

"GLASSINE IRISES"

"GLASSINE IRISES"
8" x 8" Acrylic on Canvas
This painting has been sitting in the underpainting stages in my studio for some time now. I was inspired to finish it after going to the local greenhouse today and seeing all the beautiful flowers they have. I have no time to garden right now so I will just "garden" in my head and transfer the images to canvas. My neighbor always has the most incredible garden, I am going to set up my easel there this summer and just go crazy.

"TAOS MEADOW"

Hello everyone...I'm back!
I have really missed working on these smaller paintings and I'm anxious to get back to it.
It may not be every day but hopefully often enough to keep you enticed!
Here is today's offering!

"TAOS MEADOW"

8" x 10" Acrylic on Canvas

This painting is actually from a photo up in Arroyo Seco on the drive up to Taos Ski Valley. It caught my eye and I quickly pulled over to the side of the road, got out and snapped the shot. That's quite a common sight up in Taos, I guess I'm really just a tourist in Taos because I could paint and take pictures up there all day long. Enjoy!

"SLEEPY ADOBE"

"SLEEPY ADOBE"
18" x 24" Acrylic on Canvas
This is one of my favorite paintings. I have had it for a year or so and thought about keeping it myself but have decided to offer it up for auction. It's a very peaceful scene depicting an old adobe with sunflowers in the foreground and night closing in. All of my paintings for the Old Town show are done and delivered. I will be at an artist's reception at about 5:30pm this Friday and painting on Saturday from 12pm-4pm. If you're out and about and would like to come and say hi, I would love to see you. Thanks!
