new day...new start!

2022
Is finally here.
I don't know whether to be happy or sad.

I spent most of 2021
driving around in my car,
taking tons of photos and
painting using my steering wheel easel.
I wanted to paint with groups but just wasn't feeling safe yet.

Painting at a marigold farm in Corrales

I painted a few times with my friend Barbara Clark and I
took a three day trip to Taos to paint
and participate in a show at Wilder Nightingale.

That was a nice rest,
but it felt kind of weird staying in a hotel by myself.
But also nice.
I will probably do something of that sort
again this year.

I have been working on my "FLY AWAY BLUEBIRDS" project too.
All 8x10s with acrylic and lines.
Here are a few:

I have really missed writing my blog.
I posted paintings mostly to facebook and instagram.
I sold a lot of paintings through the new
and beautiful Weems Gallery and sold quite a few
pieces online.
I painted ornaments. I didn't go crazy,
only 35, but I was tired at the end of December.

My plans for this year are:
Relaxing
Painting
Swimming in the swim spa
Gardening
Working out
Maybe doing an art collaboration
Hanging with the grandkiddos
Doing some sort of service project
Organizing, and purging
Writing in this blog three times a week
and:

HAVING AN ART PARTY
 IN SEPTEMBER!!

I will also be working on my health.
I have worked on my eating for the last two years
 and have lost 66 pounds.
I still have a few to go,
but I know I can do it.

And to start off the year right,

I CUT MY HAIR!

If you want to follow me as I
start my crazy journey in 2022,
follow along on the right hand side
of this blog, or drop me an email.
And as always, comments are
welcome and encouraged!

2 on the way

"ON THE WAY"
8x10" oil
This painting is from the "LET'S PAINT NEW MEXICO!"
facebook painting Challenge.
It's the river running right alongside the highway
on the way to Taos, New Mexico.
Never fails to move me.

gotta get away....

Hi all,

Well, it's October and there is a lot happening!

I just got back from a quick trip to Taos.
Kevin MacPherson, a really wonderful painter from Taos,
sent out an invitation for artists to go up and paint his famous pond.
I jumped at the chance.

I left for Taos Saturday morning.
I have to say, the chamisa was amazing all the way up north:

I stopped off in Pilar for a few pics:

I spent the night with my relatives and left
early the next morning for Valle Escondido.

The drive was beautiful and here is Kevin's pond:

I finished two paintings here using my steering wheel easel.
I have to say that using the steering wheel is a little different.
You can only put the seat back so far,
so they look a little more impressionistic than normal:

"KEVIN'S POND"
8x10"

"ASPEN HILLSIDE"
9x12"

Such a beautiful place, I hope I get to paint there again.
Thank you Kevin, for being so generous with your time,
and your gorgeous setting!

I took a ton of photos in and around Taos, many of
which I'm sure will become paintings:

Red chile ristras were out in full force

 Teepees against a blue sky

I've always photographed this tree.
I think maybe it died.

 The beautiful Rio Grande gorge

 Beautiful Taos mountain

The grass was so tall you could hardly see the cows

 Gorgeous fall colors

The horses were also enjoying the fall weather

What a wonderful place to be a horse!

This one didn't want his photo taken

 Village of Arroyo Seco

 Cool old Seco truck

 Old adobe with chamisa

Muted fall colors were everywhere

Another old truck - with eyelashes

 Virginia creeper and chamisa

 The golden hour, Valdez

 More golden hour

 El Salto and fall colors

 Seco cemetery

 One little golden sapling

On my way out of town, I stopped by the river to paint one more painting

This is the scene I painted.
I definitely will paint this in the studio
because in this painting, the colors are really warm,
when in reality, they are much cooler.

 "THE RIVER RUNS"
8x10"

And THIS is my favorite photo from the trip!
Golden trees with an adobe wall and an old blue gate.
Viva Taos!!

Tomorrow....new information about my upcoming adventure.
