"THE LANDMARK"

"THE LANDMARK"
10"X10"
SOLD
This is a painting of the old Lobo Theater near the University of New Mexico. It's not a theater anymore, I believe it's a church now. At least it's still standing. The last movie I saw there was, are you ready for this - "The Last Tango in Paris" with Marlon Brando. I think I was barely 17 and it was a very risque movie back then. Didn't think too much of it then, but I loved going to the theater. It had a balcony and was one of those beautiful old-time movie houses, with velvet ropes and fancy carpet.
I don't normally paint buildings and I don't draw things to scale so it has a whimsical look that I like.
Please email me for purchase information.

  1. OH! I just told my daughter Holly a story *today* about having gone to see Jesus Christ, Superstar there in 1973. I went with friends and I stayed by myself for the second showing, because that was in the days when you paid to get into the theater and could stay as long as you wanted once you were there, a relic of the double-feature (and cartoon and newsreels) days.

    This is beautiful, Dee!

(The last movie I saw there was Rocky Horror Picture Show, and that outing was mentioned just last Wednesday.)

  2. Sandra,
I know. I miss the cartoons!
Don't you just love old buildings? I'm going to paint the El Rey and the Highland too. I had a blast just driving around downtown looking for old buildings to photograph. Got some great shots of people - that's my next quest.
