Guess who is taking the picture? Me!

and other things.... This is my daily art blog. I'm artist Dee Sanchez and I live and work in Alameda, New Mexico - the land of blue skies, red hills, and three unique cultures. What a beautiful place to paint! Join me on my daily painting quest, my plein air adventures, my video logs, my "getting ready for a show" preparations, my painting tips, and I may even throw in an opinion or two...I also document my struggles with getting healthy and my crazy family life
This is my newest painting for the upcoming Weems show at the beginning of September. It looks very romantic and mysterious in person! Today I am working on a large Arroyo Hondo landscape, a daily painting, and toning another two large canvases. But first I'm going to buy fruits and vegetables and shoot some photos of Corrales.
These are my first two works in progress for the upcoming show at Weems Uptown that opens on Sunday, September 4th. I'm loving them. They will all be the same size - 30"x40" and will all be framed (assuming my frames arrive in time for the show!). I have three WILDS (thats what I call any chaotic masses of flowers), the sunflower you see above, an arroyo landscape, a vertical aspen, a vertical Pedernal, the river at Arroyo Hondo, a vertical hollyhocks at Arroyo Seco, and I'm debating over two sunsets - one of Elena Gallegos, one of Algodones. I just have to choose. I think they will all look pretty striking when they're hanging together. More tomorrow and I have two daily paintings in the works.
The most beautiful sky yesterday! I had to go to Johnson's Gallery to pick up paintings and I decided to drive almost to Santa Fe and take the turnoff that way, going through Galisteo and Cerrillos. It looked like it had rained - everything looked so clean and the clouds and sky were just luscious!
This is the steeple of the church in Cerrillos. It was pretty quiet, probably because it was a Monday, but I did see a few people hanging out, taking pictures.
The view coming down into Madrid from Cerrillos. What you see here is Main Street with all of the little shops, galleries, and markets.
This was leaving Madrid and heading towards Golden and Cedar Crest. Aren't the colors just gorgeous? I wish I would've had more time to just cruise around - I would've loved to go to Galisteo.
