long time, no see

Hi all,

I can't believe it's been SO long since I've blogged.
Life just keeps putting up road blocks in front of me.
And sometimes I forget.

Anyway, I'm not going to talk about everything I've done since
I talked to you last.

I am going to share what I'm working on now.

Here are my latest paintings.

These pieces are for an exhibition at
Corrales Fine Arts Gallery
4685 Corrales Road

I am painting 10-12 paintings,
small to medium with one larger work.

Look for the following works, plus SEVEN more!
I'm painting what I want,
which is an incredible joy.

 " THE TRIO"

 "GLORIOUS SUNFLOWERS"

 "AUTUMN GORGE"

 "BLACK MESA AND GOLD"

"RHAPSODY"

I made all of the images large so you could see them better.

I'm using my Cobra oils.
I love their buttery feel.
I do not care for the way they smell.
They don't have that beautiful oil smell that I love so much.

I am slowly removing colors as I paint.
I bought too many greens while trying to match cadmium green
and sap green.

I bought too many blues too, but I adore them all.
And trying to find a perfect match for permanent rose -
forget about it.

I am adapting though.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the clean-up!
Just a wipee removes everything.

Anyway, much more to come....

SUMNER AND DENE GALLERY
Architecture Show
FRIDAY, JULY 3, 2015
ARTIST RECEPTION 5-8PM.

The paintings below will be included in the show.

I'm still painting for the next few days
and I specifically have a downtown urban scene in mind
that I would like to capture!

I hope you will come down to the show to visit with me
and see the paintings.
It's a group show and since I love all of the other artists'
work, I can't wait to see them myself.

It was full of ristras and the building was not so colrful,
but I had to include the old gas pump on the far left.

This is a window with hollyhocks at the
beautiful Los Poblanos Inn in the north valley.

 "AUTUMN AT SECO CHURCH"

I have painted this scene a couple of times and I never tire of it.
The warm adobe with the red roof of the church and the chamisa

"AUTUMN AT BLACK MESA"

My favorite of the bunch!
The blue of the mountain top sings to me.
I could stare at this painting all day.

Quite a few things coming up on the agenda that I will talk about next week.
Have a great Father's Day!

always looking

I know people who like to travel.
Anywhere. Anytime.

All over the world.
Not me.

I DO love traveling.
But I keep my traveling close.

I can (and will)spend the rest of my life traveling all over this beautiful state of New Mexico.

Painting, taking photographs,
and hopefully hanging out with people I love.
 Or alone.

I find it hard to travel with people
when I paint.
I need quiet. I need to think.
I need to find that perfect composition.

But other times, I love company.
I love traveling with relatives or friends
to Chimayo or Abiquiu:

 enjoying Monastery road

having lunch at the Abiquiu Inn

 Enjoying Ghost Ranch and Pedernal

 meeting new friends

 and finding new, mysterious places

Then, there are other times
I just really like being alone.
Why?

to ponder the beauty of creation

To sit and enjoy a spring day

 to find sacred places

 to find hidden painting spots

 to see beautiful things

Fellow artists, we are not normal.
Not me anyway.
I am caught between two worlds.

In one world I need companionship, relationships, and people.

And in the other world, I need quiet time, alone time, and solitude.
For thinking, planning, and creating.

And sometimes, I just really need to hold my graddaughter.

Art on the brain....

Oh man, I am getting spring fever.
I woke up at 4am the other morning, and started thinking...
about art.
Everything art!

About what i want to do this year, next year,
the next five years.

I seriously got up,
went in the living room,
got out my phone,
and entered every thought I was thinking.
Before I forgot it all.

This is my newest painting:

"LAYERS"
10x8"

So, I am going to start implementing some of my plans
and will share them with you as they come about.

finally

Back at it. Finally.

Hi all -
I am playing catch-up here.
I've been working on my Retro Challenge paintings,
enjoying a visit from some nice out-of-town facebook friends,
photographing hollyhocks around town,
pulling weeds in the garden,
enjoying my granddaughter,
and everything else that goes along with summer.

Now I really have to sock it into high gear -
I haven't even started on ornaments yet!

Please keep in mind that I am painting the Retro Challenge paintings
for a big show that opens on Friday, September 26, at
Weems Gallery on Montgomery NE.

It should be a blast!

If you want to know how to purchase Retro Challenge paintings,
please read the link to your right.

Have a great summer ya'll!
(Hint, hint, "ya'll)
Guess where my friends were from??

This is painting #99, "AUTUMN AT BLACK MESA."

These are a couple of shots of hollyhocks at a beauty shop
near where I live.

Love the cool colors in this one.
It almost looks like fall with the rusts and oranges.
And fourth of July with the flag!

This is my friend Connie from Fort Worth, Texas.
We had never met until she came for a visit and now I adore her!
She is so sweet (along with her husband John, and friends Claudia and Earl)
and we went on a day trip, ate lots of Mexican food, and had a great time.
I hope to see her again soon.
Taos Connie, remember??

On another note, this is a photo from my facebook friend Nicole,
who lives in France.
She posts the most beautiful photos and gave me permission to paint this.
And I'm going to!
Thank goodness for wonderful facebook friends....

One more show and then...changes

I just got back from a day trip to northern New Mexico and boy,
did I need it after Balloon Fiesta.
The Fiesta was fantastic - I sold lots of work and met people from all over the world.
I saw Dawn Patrol, Mass Ascensions, Shapes Rodeos, glows, and fireworks.  It was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I loved it all. Except for getting up at 3:30am every morning. Seriously, people who love ballooning are some of the best people I've ever met.
The photo above is from our favorite little general store in Tesuque.
It's a little smoky because they had a pinon fire burning - the smell was heavenly.

This was someone's property in Tesuque.
They had huge grounds, I don't know how many acres and it was all covered in trees like this.

This is red chile ristras in Chimayo.
I bought my favorite dried red chile there.
They have oven-dried and sun-dried. Sun-dried is definitely better.
I also bought some powdered chipotle.
They said the best way to prepare it is to mix it with orange juice and honey. Hmm.
I also bought the Chimayo dried heirloom chile, which is hot and a bright bright orange.
I said I might mix it with another milder one and the guy told me, "No, don't do that, it's like mixing a fine wine with the cheap stuff."
I also bought some of the seeds to plant next year. They supposedly go way way back.
Gotta have that chile fix.

Santuario de Chimayo was beautiful. They have it lined with luminarias.
It's on my bucket list to go to midnight Mass there one Christmas Eve.

Here is San Idelfonso at Black Mesa.
The last time I photographed and painted this church,
the golden trees were a lovely purplish-grey.
Beautiful either way.

We stopped to eat at the Abiquiu Inn.
I noticed my friend Michelle Chrisman's paintings on the wall.
All of her paintings are plein air and painted with a knife.
She does an awesome workshop up in Ghost Ranch every year.

 Homemade salsa and guacamole...yummy.

 Huevos Rancheros.
I don't care for eggs on my Huevos, so I asked them to bring me a side of their homemade papas (potatoes) instead.
The Huevos are made with blue corn tortillas. So good!

The morada near Georgia O'Keefe's house.
I wish you could see the valley beyond.
The view from her bedroom is gorgeous.
Tours of her house and grounds are available for $30.

On the way to Ghost Ranch.

 Those beautiful hills.

These are orange at the top and mauve and grey at the base.

 Fall color at Ghost Ranch.
Beautiful!

 Pedernal and fall colors.

Along the road to the monastery.
Pictures don't do justice to how pretty is was.

This pile of "something" was at apull of camping area next to the Chama river.
Can someone tell me if this is bear scat?
We didn't stick around long.

Another view of the Rio Chama.
What you don't see if that I'm driving up high on a one lane dirt road filled with ruts.
A little scary...

Candy-coated formations along the monastery road.

The famous hoodoos seen from the back.

Side trip to the little village of Canones, nearAbiquiu Lake.
Colors were vivid here too.

Three little cows, leery of us for invading their privacy.

Another view of Pedernal from Canones.

Beautiful fall colors - perfect for making a painting.

So, now that I've had a few days to recuperate, it's on to preparation
for Weems Artfest, which is happening November 9, 10, 11th.
I'm not sending out postcards because it is too close to Balloon Fiesta,
but I'm hoping that you will all come down to visit and see my new work.
Lots of 5x5, 6x6, 8x8, and 8x10 pieces, along with a few larger works too.

This will be my last show until 2014.
