4-24 hidden retreat

 "HIDDEN RETREAT"

10x10" oil on panel

Can you tell that I'm wishing for spring?

Our highs are in the 30s for the next few days.

And that cold bites you to the bone!

The painting above is one of my favorite scenes.

A wild flower garden in a sedate adobe that

can only be seen from the back yard.

I hope you enjoy!

2-24 in full bloom

  "IN FULL BLOOM"
10X8" oil

I love painting like this.
Just big jumbles of chaotic flowers.
When it works, it feels like magic.

This looks like an English country garden, but
could be any garden in New Mexico.

I didn't get in the studio until after 6pm
and had no expectations.
Just create something as a warm up
for when I really start work.
I'm glad I did!

I hope you love it!
All of the work I'm creating is available for purchase.
If you're interested, leave a comment and I will
message you with more information.
Tomorrow, it might be an ornament!

P.S. I slow-swam for half an hour and ate
half a Subway for lunch!

I'm back!

Wow, I haven't posted here since August,

that's crazy.

There's been a lot of stuff going on, and truthfully,

I haven't been that inspired.

But then....Fall arrived!

Cool mornings, cloudy days, balloons,

leaves falling, pumpkin cookies, etc.

So hopefully, I am back in the groove

and will be posting regularly.

I will be painting at Weems Gallery this

Saturday, October 8, from 12noon-2pm

Come by and visit me!

Lots of exciting work coming,

maybe even a few ornaments....

long time, no see

Hi all,

I can't believe it's been SO long since I've blogged.
Life just keeps putting up road blocks in front of me.
And sometimes I forget.

Anyway, I'm not going to talk about everything I've done since
I talked to you last.

I am going to share what I'm working on now.

Here are my latest paintings.

These pieces are for an exhibition at
Corrales Fine Arts Gallery
4685 Corrales Road

I am painting 10-12 paintings,
small to medium with one larger work.

Look for the following works, plus SEVEN more!
I'm painting what I want,
which is an incredible joy.

 " THE TRIO"

 "GLORIOUS SUNFLOWERS"

 "AUTUMN GORGE"

 "BLACK MESA AND GOLD"

"RHAPSODY"

I made all of the images large so you could see them better.

I'm using my Cobra oils.
I love their buttery feel.
I do not care for the way they smell.
They don't have that beautiful oil smell that I love so much.

I am slowly removing colors as I paint.
I bought too many greens while trying to match cadmium green
and sap green.

I bought too many blues too, but I adore them all.
And trying to find a perfect match for permanent rose -
forget about it.

I am adapting though.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the clean-up!
Just a wipee removes everything.

Anyway, much more to come....

pastoral

Still Lifes Rock

"PASTORAL"
9x12"
oil

My first still life of thee year.

I really had fun with this one!

Something about that turquoise vase contrasting
 the orange-yellow of the lilly.

Gonna keep it short.

More to come in a day or two.

Have a good weekend!

P.S. For some reason, my comments are not coming through.
Feel free to email me at dshadowtail@aol.com until
I get it fixed. Thanks!

adobe shadows

2018

"ADOBE SHADOWS"
8x10"
oil
A floral scene from Los Ranchos, NM
Flowers against warm adobe

I am happy to have the first painting of 2018
under my belt.
It was so hard to get started!
I warmed up the studio.
Than I ate lunch.
Then I watched one of my shows.
Then I straightened up the stuff on the dining room table.
Then I came in and checked my email.
Then I checked my favorite artists' websites and blogs.

I totally realized that I was procrastinating.
I haven't painted anything except ornaments
since before Christmas!

But I did start and it is just like riding a bicycle.
You just go by rote:

Put on the lights
Put on the gloves
Get the paints out on the palette
Get out the Gamsol
Get out the kleenix
Get out the wipees
Get a small paper plate
Put some acrylic paint on it
Very loosely sketch your scene
Check your email one last time
Go to the bathroom
Go outside and pet the dogs
Have a snack
Sit down and stare at the panel on your easel

NOW GO, YOU MORON!

As you can see, I finally went and it felt so good.

This painting is Challenge 2018-1 on our group,
"LET'S PAINT NEW MEXICO!"
We have a facebook page and a blog.

To check out the blog, click here.
On facebook, type "let's paint new mexico" into the search box.
Keep an eye out for our group exhibition this fall!

Okay, now that I have one painting done,
I want to do a million more......

feels good

"THE BEST BOUQUET
10x8"
oil

I finally feel like I'm back in the painting zone!
I started this piece one evening when
I really wasn't in the mood to paint - but thought I SHOULD.

It all really came together and got me
excited for all of the events and projects I have coming up.

This bouquet of flowers really reminds me of my
grandmothers' gardens growing up.
Wildly chaotic and I used big, bold brushstrokes.

My next project is painting in Jemez and I will have
more details on that later.

#105 "POPPIES AND ROSES"

"POPPIES AND ROSES"
8x10"

This painting is much prettier in person.
It makes me think of a person dreaming about flowers.

This is what I dream about sometimes after
a full day of painting chaotic gardens and meadows!
