in with the new

IN WITH THE NEW

Wow, another year has come and gone so fast,
I feel like I didn't even have time to blink.
I didn't post as much as I wanted, there were just
too many things to do and not enough time.

SO, I am not going to talk about last year at all.

I want to talk about 2018 and what this year means for me.

It means A LOT OF ART.
I think.

I do this every year.
I think and I plan and I make lists
of all of the events and art things I want to do this year.
I get really excited about the possibilities.

BUT THEN I start to overthink things.

Do I really want to participate in ALL of these events?
How many shows do I want to enter and be a part of?

So I have thought and thought and narrowed it down.

Here is my tentative year:

Entry into Santa Fe Plein Air Fiesta

Last year's event was fun!
I spent four days painting in and around
Santa Fe, and this year, the painting area has expanded
to include Taos and Albuquerque.
And both paintings sold!

Then there are several NM Art League
shows that sound interesting:

OBJECTS OF DESIRE
ART OF THE FLOWER
LAY OF THE LAND
SMALL WORKS HOLIDAY SHOW

Then there's the MASTERWORKS
and the MINIATURES SHOW coming up.

The GHOSTWOLF Gallery has a show coming up called
WOMEN'S WORK in the Spring.

I want to complete a small series of figures and nudes.

I am hoping to be a part of the plein air
painters in the CORRALES GARDEN TOUR this summer.

Such beautiful gardens:

In the summer, I am planning to join a couple of
fellow plein air painters in Taos for three or four days.
Just relaxing, and painting. And eating! And painting.

Then there is the Albuquerque Museum Show (Arts Thrive)
that I miss every year because I forget about the deadline.
I'm going to memorize that deadline!

We are also planning a fall show for our facebook group,
"LET'S PAINT NEW MEXICO!"
For those of you unfamiliar, this is a group
of painters who are given an image of NM every two weeks
and everyone uses the image as their muse and
creates a work of art.
We held our first exhibition a couple of years ago and it
was very successful. Thanks Jillian Maresco!

I am also planning two events for myself.
I may only have time for one but I would love to
do both:

DEE'S ANNUAL ART PARTY AND STUDIO SALE!

This is always such a fun event with great
Mexican food, music by Mezcla Latina, and
a very cool Studio Sale.
Limited to 75 attendees and it's FREE.
Tentative date September 2....
Watch for postings and a postcard!

The other event is a retreat:

UPSTART
A ONE DAY RETREAT FOR WOMEN TO
GET AWAY, HANG OUT, CREATE SOME ART,
EAT SOME GOOD FOOD, AND JUST "BE".

Some plans:
Meditation, gentle stretching or yoga,
making a journal necklace,
lunch, maybe a walk on the acequia,
painting a birdhouse, enjoying a demo,
special workshop, or taking a nap.
Not sure of fees or amount of attendees at this time.
Possibly in May.

Well, there it is.
Oh, and lots of plein air and studio painting thrown in.

Also, I am working on my health and finding that balance.
it seems to be happening!

This is the image for my first painting of 2018:

And I promise to post on a regular basis!
Happy New Year

New Work

I have two new 145 Challenge paintings and the
new "OCEANA" painting for the Weems water show.

I am almost to #100.
Then I will have only 100 more paintings to paint by September 30th.
Uh-oh, that's not that far away.

I am such a procrastinator.
I said I wasn't going to do any shows this year
but I can't help doing the Weems themed shows.
The shows are so diverse, fun and interesting
and I just love the people who work at the gallery.
They are so friendly and work really hard to promote and sell artwork.

"SUMMER DREAMS"

I paint New Mexico.
This was a stretch for me.

newest commission - Canyon Women in harmony with the moon

Whew, the kitchen is done and I can breathe again.
There is one lazy susan cabinet that broke off of the hinges when someone just barely touched it.
It wasn't glued well at the factory I guess, so they're sending another one.
I made enchiladas for the family on Sunday and everyone loved the kitchen.
It's so nice, I am definitely not used to it yet.

I have three commissions I'm working on now -
the one above, a 12x16" Sandia mountains,
and an 8x10" poppies in a blue vase.
I also owe a friend a painting of Canyon Women gathered around a pinon Christmas tree.
She sent me two paintings of hers that I loved, one of figs and one of a cup with a flower beside it.
It's so fun being an artist and being able to trade artwork with other artists!

I have about 14 church paintings at Weems Gallery Uptown until the end of March.
In April, I have a painting for an exhibition called SEEDS, more about that later.
I will also be participating in Weems April group exhibition FLOWERS.

I canceled my membership at Curves and am going to be working with the trainers
at Planet Fitness near my house. It's really cool because they also have a 30 minutes circuit just like Curves.
I love my Curves and especially the friends I've made there,
but I needed to shake things up a bit in order to get this weight off of me.

That's all I've got for now.
I will post the finished balloon painting tomorrow and the sketch of the Sandia mountains.
