************************************

I'm back!

Wow, I haven't posted here since August,

that's crazy.

There's been a lot of stuff going on, and truthfully,

I haven't been that inspired.

But then....Fall arrived!

Cool mornings, cloudy days, balloons,

leaves falling, pumpkin cookies, etc.

So hopefully, I am back in the groove

and will be posting regularly.

I will be painting at Weems Gallery this

Saturday, October 8, from 12noon-2pm

Come by and visit me!

Lots of exciting work coming,

maybe even a few ornaments....

9 about the iris

Anyone who knows me knows how much I love iris.
I spent my youth living next to my grandmother and playing
in the iris beds was my favorite past time.

I love their regal beauty, their softness,
their smell, their hardiness, and how easy they are to grow.
This is my impressionistic version of an iris bed.

3 woodland iris

"WOODLAND IRIS"
8x6"
oil on panel
$89

I'm not going to lie, this was a hard painting for me.
Sometimes using a knife is just hard!

It's so much easier to use a brush to "smoosh"
the colors together and blend them on canvas.
With a knife, you have to pick up paint in just the right way,
lay it down and leave it there. Less room for play.
If you start trying to mix things around, colors get muddy fast.

I do love the way this painting turned out.
I wanted to convey the softness of th eiris with the
hardness of the post behind it.
The background is mostly loose gravel and rocks and a few iris leaves.

Garden Two

GARDEN TWO

I checked out Garden Number Tour on the
Corrales Garden Tour coming up this weekend.
Beautiful grounds - it looks like a big park under the tall cottonwoods.

I was not so sure about the names of some of the flowers.
This is not a garden that I am painting at,
so I just admired the flowers for their beauty.

 I do know iris!
These were beautiful shades of purple with yellow yarrow in the background.

Close up of a soft purple iris

A cool rose that was different shades of orange, pink, and yellow!
I want one of these in my yard!

These look like coreopsis, but maybe a double variety.
Keep deadheading these and they will come back all summer.

 Hmm, what are these?
Kimd of look like gladiolas but I know they're not.

Had to pass by the ditchbank and the old sign.
I love to paint this scene, especially in the fall.

I took a few more photos of the old church.
I will have three church paintings to exhibit along with my garden paintings.

A view of the cemetary in Corrales.
More about the paint-out tomorrow.
I have four more gardens to see!
