it just happens

You can plan.
You can sketch.
You can paint.

But, sometimes, something just happens when you're working on a painting.

This is not from a photograph or any one place in New Mexico.

It started as a road and just evolved into a beautiful
somber painting that makes me want to sing.

One of those serendipitous moments that rarely happen.

My eye runs from the red in the road through the curve of the landscape
and up to the little spot of red on the tree on the far right.

This is what makes painting worthwhile to me.
That sweet little moment of saying to myself, "Wow, I did that?
And then thinking, "Wow, I really did that!"

The glowing pathway
The Canyon Women enjoying it all

This one may be my Christmas card this year!

DP10 "STAR BRIGHT"

"STAR BRIGHT"
8x8"
oil on hardboard
SOLD

I am in the Christmas mood, can you tell?

My dream in to be at Chimayo one year for midnight Mass
and see that beautiful old church in all its holiday glory.

There is a little inn right around the corner that has about 5-6 rooms.
I don't know how far in advance they are booked for that night,
but one of my resolutions is to call and see about making a reservation.

I will be painting more paintings similar to this in the coming weeks.
Also, if you would like to commission something similar, and I have time,
please email me.

Legacy Art painting

The Legacy Art event is happening in a couple of weeks and I need to decide on my subject for the painting and get it done so it will have time to dry. I decided to use this canvas, a 30x24, because I have some frames in that size that I love and need to use. I had already sketched a floral piece that I meant to paint with a red background but that will just have to wait for another day and another canvas.

This is my block in. I decided on a peaceful mountain scene, with wildflowers roaming through a meadow. The purple could either be a shadowed pathway or possibly water.
You can still see evidence of the floral sketch underneath.

"PEACE NEAR  THE MOUNTAINS"
30X24"

This is not the final image. I shot it quickly with my digital but plan to have my photographer shoot it so I will have a good clear image for my records.
I like the way it turned out. I wouldn't mind taking a walk through this mountain meadow sometime. It would also make a nice image for a postcard.
