new find

I've been mulling over the idea of finding some kind of shelf to store my paints so they're not just scattered all over the place. One level for the open tubes, another level for back up boxed paints waiting their turn. I stopped at the thrift store yesterday and found this perfect little shelf for $7.99. It even has a top level that I can use to store canvas. I like it!

I also found the REM cd that has Losing My Religion on it, a black big square locker kind of tote, and some books. Score!

The following 150 CHALLENGE paintings have SOLD:

#26 - BIRD'S EYE VIEW, ABIQUIU
#135 - BENT STREET BOUQUET
#45 - LITTLE ADOBE

acrylic

This painting is now available at Weems Gallery Uptown. When I finished painting it, my daughter whisked it away to her room and kept it there for about two years. Now she has chosen several small pieces from the 150 Show that she would like me to replicate for her, so she chose to give up something to get something new! This is the only acrylic I have without any lines. If you are interested in thie piece, please email the gallery at www.weemsgallery.com or call

MARK YOUR CALENDERS!

WEEMS $285 SHOW AND SALE IS COMING UP!

Weems will have their upcoming and ever-popular $285 show on Saturday, July 16, 2011.

This show is so fun!

A good number of artists bring in work that sells for well over $1000 and up and everything in the show is priced at $285 or less. There are some fantastic bargains and Weems does this show every year mainly to say a nice thank you to all of their customers for their continued patronage. The doors open at 10am and most of the work is usually gone by 1pm. I will have all of my lined work in the show - all of my paintings in the gallery with linework will be priced at $285 or less. Some works are 30"x40" and some smaller pieces will be priced at $50.

So I guess you know what that means?

I will be painting oils for Artfest!

I am so excited. I will have calenders, cards, magnets, maybe a few ornaments and smaller paintings starting at 4"x4" for $25. I will also have some nice large works that hopefully, will knock your socks off. I am setting up my schedule right now and have started a new blog to showcase the Artfest paintings as they come off the easel. The new blog is www.artfest2011.blogspot.com. More later on that.

Art season has begun!

Thank you to all of the buyers, thank you to all who came to support me and see the show, and thank you to the gallery, for being so sweet and efficient.

NEW PROJECTS

Today I am starting back to work. I'm always excited and feel a little overwhelmed until I actually sit down in the studio and start painting. Then I seem to get in the zone and things just start to flow. Here's what I have coming up:

Paint 3 paintings for a July opening at Johnsons Gallery in Madrid

Paint several commission pieces

Paint 6 new paintings for One Artist Road in Santa Fe

Paint 3 paintings for a juried show at Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos

Paint some new large bold work for a group show coming up in September at Weems Uptown Start organizing and painting for Artfest

Get back to offering my small daily paintings for purchase on my blog

Go to several upcoming plein air paintouts throughout New Mexico

See about making calenders, cards, and magnets for Artfest

Think about doing some ornaments for Artfest

Get ready for the Alameda Studio Tour in October

Whew - I think I just made myself tired. Anyway, I will be calling the gallery today to find out which 150 paintings are left and I will try to post some of them for you this week. Thank you guys and stay tuned.

MY NEW OFFICIAL WEBSITE

Hi everyone!

I am working on my website and I wanted you to take a look and tell me what you think.

I have a few things I haven't figured out yet, and since I'm teaching myself - it's rather slow going.

I haven't figured out how to put captions on my photos (even though they are on the photos in the image collection). I haven't figured out how to get back to home when you click on my daily painting blog and a couple of other places. I have made a musical montage of my available 150 paintings but haven't figured out how to get it actually into my website. Oh well, I will figure it out or I will spend a lot of time on the phone with tech support!

Anyway, to check out the site, go to www.deesanchez.com

Taos

We decided to take a little overnight house-hunting trip to Taos. This was last night sitting out on my brother-in-law's patio watching the moon coming up over El Salto peak. The trees you see in the foreground are tall aspens.

This is a little church we passed and I just snapped a shot out the window. I can't remember where I saw it, but it was so cute!

We've been cloudless in Albuquerque for some time, so it was nice to see some puffy white clouds over the mountains.

Columbines growing in the flower beds. Beautiful!

My favorite view of the Rio Grande gorge right after you come out of the winding horseshoe curve. I love it most in fall when the sunflowers are blooming.

We found a couple of nice properties including one that I really liked but my husband wasn't too keen on the house. We'll keep looking.

POPPY GALORE

how I spent yesterday...

This is my studio. In this photo you can see my computer, the French door that leads to the back yard, my painting area, gloves, tissue, wipees, etc. On the left are solvents, brush cleaning equipment, pens, a big stack of blank index cards (my lifeline for remembering things), and a metal rack for important incoming paperwork. On the bottom under the table I have three big containers of ornaments just waiting to be painted. I also have "clean" canvases - which are white and need to be covered as soon as possible. In the upper left, I have a bulletin board with family photos, drawing from my girls, feathers I have found, etc. The cabinet houses all of my cd collection and the pups' leashes are hanging on the wall. I just realized that I need some kind of cool container to house all of the oil paint tubes I seem to be collecting.

I cleaned my studio!

Usually when I say "clean my studio" it means that I just kind of clean off the tables and shuffle the clutter around. This time, I really cleaned. I'm not done yet, but almost. I have to get some single edged blades to scrape acrylic paint off the floor and mop one half, clean the windows and doors and then I'm done. After that, I will decide whether I want to paint or not.

This is the other table with my two filing cabinets (the next thing to be organized) my plein air easels under the table, my two spectrum lamps for extra lighting, all of my brushes, and a little area for filing and acrylic materials.

This is the area that I really cleaned. There were about 10 of bins of acrylic paint, a large dark brown three panel hinged screen, some old canvas, an old slide light box, and lots of little junk (some sun faces I bought to paint but never did, some statues, some old books, etc). I have to still label and organize all of those white boxes that hold things for hanging, postcards, camera bettery chargers, you name it and it's probably in one of those boxes. You can see my two larger easels and my favorite cigar box easel on the tripod. In the back is my favorite studio item - the black roll around cart that holds all of my photos and reference material, plus afan that looks very vintage but is actually new and modern.

This is the area for my small canvases. I have all of the canvas for daily painting and gallery wrap canvas for Weems Artfest. There are also some small "mini" canvases (4x4, 4x5) that I will be painting for Artfest this year. I also have two extra stools stored underneath for when people come and hang out.

Another view. You can see the doggies' beds (which I remove every morning) and my little studio cross collection. And a clock. Of course. I put it WAY over there so I would forget to look at it. I hate clocks. On the far right you will notice part of a wall that has 2x4s laid out for holding completed paintings. The French door leads out to the side courtyard.

I think I've almost given you a 360 degree view of the studio, now I just need to get to work!

day trip to Abiquiu and monastery

Isn't this the most beautiful place to build a monastery? Right at the end of a 13 mile dirt road with the Rio Chama running right alongside...

The cliffs near Abiquiu - love the puffy clouds

We went to Chimayo and this is Father Roca - the first pastor EVER at Santuario de Chimayo. He is 93 years old and he planted those trees you see in the background. He is from Spain and he spoke to my mother-in-law in Spanish about his life as a priest here. He has written a book (which I bought) and he signed it and blessed it for me. He's feisty and when I told him I was from Albuquerque, he said, "Bah, too big!" What a wonderful chance meeting.

These are roses out in front of the restaurant Rancho de Chimayo. We had a wonderful lunch there outside under the patio umbrellas.I ended up getting 6 sopapillas with fresh Chimayo honey to take home. I have a lot more photos but don't want to overload you. I tok 461 pics of the day trip!

The roses were in full bloom on the beautiful old doors.

random photos...

My babies are all gone. We took 132 paintings down to Weems Old Town yesterday and the last 18 today. My studio feels really empty right now but I'm SO excited to see all of my paintings on the wall. Hopefully they have room for all of them!

We were trying to decide how to group them, by season, subject, etc. I'm happy as long as they don't group all of the sunsets together, or all of the meadows together, etc.

I think it's going to be overwhelming to take them all in anyway, but when you hang 20 sunsets together, all I see is one BIG sunset.

Anyway, this photo is of the beautiful hollyhocks right out Weem's backdoor.

This is a photo of hollyhocks on Chirch Street, the litle tiny street across from Weems. I really love the fuschia color of the hollyhocks with the grey of the tree trunk and the soft brown of the adobe. This is a painting one day.

Okay, this is my neighbor's cat. She will never come to me, but she lays around my house like she owns the place. She chases my lizard and birds and lays in my bushes. Here she is against my house right after I watered the yard, so she's nice and cool. I had to talk nice to her to get her to raise her sleepy little head.

This is a coupel of boxes of paintings at Weems. I think we took about 18 boxes total.

These are the two larger paintings waiting to go into the car.

Tomorrow, I am going to Curves and relaxing and then finishing up some last minute stuff.

Then tomorrow night I'm going for a massage!

I invite you to look over the 150 Challenge blog

once againto see if there's a painting calling your name.

If there is, call the gallery and give them your pereferences.
