I took this in my backyard - love the fall leaves dropping on the pinon tree

Artfest Painting

I feel like I haven't posted for a while. I have lots of paintings completed that I haven't even had time to photograph and still lots more to do before the Weems show opens on November 4.
I am mailing out postcards today and then it's right back to work. Fed-Ex delievered nine boxes of frames this morning and this is the third and final order. Whew - lots of unpacking to do.
The colors are changing here and it's beautiful everywhere. How I would love to be on a day trip to Jemez today! I am doing my best to get everything posted before the show, so watch for more paintings.

thrift store finds

I thought you might be getting tired of seeing my little paintings every single day, I am - just a little bit! So I took off on a treasure hunt today and this is some of what I came home with. What you see above is a beautiful silver colander, a round gold patterned tray, four brand new college-ruled notebooks (50 cents each), three muffin tins for cute little "baby" muffins or cupcakes, a book on how to be a good facilitator at meetings, and one of John Gray's books.

These are three books that looks interesting - The McDonaldization of Society,

Three Cups of Tea, and Pueblo Mothers and Children.

Here are my notebooks again and a really cool big book of Christmas stories, which I will share and read to my little niece Emily.

Three cool CDs that I found. I actually saw more good ones than just these, but I didn't want to go overboard. One is Christmas songs by old groups like The Platters and Martha and the Vandellas. The next is a latin one by Gloria Estafan and lots of guest artists, and the last is a really awesome crooner's CD. I hope they all work, I haven't played them yet.
That's part of the fun of the treasure hunt.
Sometimes you get something that doesn't work,
and - OH WELL!
I also got a swimsuit, two shirts, and a 100% cotton old-school red and white striped shirt to use as a painting smock.
I will probably stay up reading tonight - I have a full day of painting tomorrow and 1000 postcards to address and get ready for mailing. Good night!

Oh, I almost forgot - four cookbooks. One from Pampered Chef, one from Taste of Home, one from Prevention, and one from those church fundraising groups. How cool is that?

only one painting left...

This is the last little painting I have left - thanks to all who purchased and your paintings will go out in about a week, If anyone wants this last little one, send an email to dshadowtail@aol.com. $35 free shipping!

Artfest Painting

I've finished seven small Artfest paintings over the last three days - all 6x6s and 6x8s. I love painting that small with big brushes. This piece looks very abstract and I love it - I even brushed the ground strokes up into the sky. Risky for sure, I never know if I'm going to end up going too far and overdoing the whole thing. It's happened, for sure. I'm excited to see how it's going to look surrounded by my new frames. I'll post that tomorrow.

AND...I got an email this afternoon that both of my paintings had sold at the PAPNM exhibition at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos. I'm happy.

"MONASTERY HILLS"

6"X8"

Artfest Painting #48

I need LOTS of practice painting these hills - they are so hard. Even if you just put a note of color where you see it, there are so many shadows and variations - and I am IMPATIENT. I still haven't been able to match the beautiful muted orange-gold that I saw when I was looking up at them. I guess practice might make perfect one day.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Studio Sale - that was crazy for me. I felt like I was posting every two minutes! I sold 10 paintings, kept one for myself, and have 7 left. If anyone is interested in any of the 7, you can have them for $35 apiece, including shipping. Just email me at dshadowtail@aol.com.

I have been working hard and with the studio tour going on last weekend, I haven't had time to post all of my Artfest paintings. You will see them starting to pop up now. I have 48 paintings (counting a couple from the 150 show and a few from the Weems show that just finished). The next few weeks are going to be absolutely crazy.
If you would like to receive a postcard to the Weems show and are not on my mailing list, drop me a line and I will get one out to you. Good night!

PREVIEW NIGHT FOR THE ALAMEDA TOUR

"MEDITATION GARDEN"

6"X6"

Raffle Painting for Preview Night

Hi all -

This sweet little painting will be my raffle item in tonight's Alameda Studio Tour drawing. The tour will be selling raffle tickets at Preview night tonight-

I think they are only ONE DOLLAR each!

Each item will have a Drop bag in front of it - you buy your tickets and drop them in the bag for the items you'd like a chance to win. So for only a dollar or two, you could win this $75 painting. I think that's AWESOME!

Each artist will also have a larger piece available to preview.

Preview Night will be from 4pm - 7pm at 834 Alameda NW (which is also Studio #16 on tomorrow's tour) and everyone is welcome! We'll have a little music, a little food and beverage, a raffle, a chance to meet all of the artists. So, come on out and join us for the first annual Alameda Studio Tour!

STUDIO TOUR INFORMATION

The Alameda Studio Tour is almost here!

Friday night is PREVIEW NIGHT and I invite you all to come and and listen to some great music, meet the artists, have some refreshments, and participate in a very cool raffle we have going on for each artist's work.
My own studio will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 10am - 5pm. I am painting for Artfest now but have been working on some small pieces just for tour visitors- you can see one of the paintings above. We'll have some goodies here at the house, so come on out and visit!

Very few people actually get to see the inside of my studio - artist studios are very personal spaces. Some artists have people in all of the time, and some never let ANYONE enter their creative space. I'm pretty easy going, I hope it's passably clean!

Visit the site for the tour - www.alamedastudiotour.com - and you can find out all the info and download the map if you'd like.

If you want to pick up a brochure, we'll have them at Preview Night, or at a tent set up at the elementary school at 4th and Alameda. See you there!

solo day trip...

on the way to the monastery - thirteen miles of dirt road but worth every bump
a view of Pedernal - lovely fall colors

near ghost Ranch - isn't this beautiful?

old morada at Abiquiu - look at the valley below

the porch at the Abiquiu Inn - so New Mexico!

Oh my gosh, what a wonderful day. I went to paint in Abiquiu, Ghost Ranch, and Christ in the Desert Monastery - lugged all of my stuff and I ended up driving all over and taking over 700 photos - not one painting. I just wish I was going again in about two weeks because the trees will all be really golden. I may have to just go for it. This has given me months of inspiration!

Balloons!

Balloon flying over my head in the back yard

Weird shape - not a gas balloon, but pretty

Fall colors - this tree is in my back yard also

So close - the dogs were not happy
Thought he was going to land on us

flying over the house next door

Every year I say the same thing ...I am NOT going to take balloon pictures this year! I only have 1000 or so. And after a while they all start to look alike. But then, you awaken on a beautiful fall morning (like today) to that magnificent sound - the propane tanks being fired up. It sounds so close, so you grab your camera, run outside, and this is what you see. All over the place! For some reason, I don't know, balloons just fill ny heart with happiness. There's something so friendly about ballooning. We are the best city on earth right now!
