This painting isn't about the lillies as much as it is about the process. It's also about the negative space between the flowers. I'm sure I will paint these flowers many more times and in many different ways. I was looking for some way to let the toned ground underneath show through and it gave it a much more three dimensional look. The rust color acts as a shadow in some places and as a highlight in others. You can also see the rust through the purple background. It looks like the light is coming from underneath. Next time I may try scumbling the background and use several different colors. Purchase information is below.
